Bath Golf Club

About the Club

Established in 1880, Bath Golf Club (known locally as Sham Castle) is one of the oldest and most prestigious inland clubs in England. Laid out on Hampton Down overlooking the historic city of Bath, the course was re-designed by Harry Colt in 1937. Built on fast-draining limestone downland, it offers crisp, firm turf year-round, tree-lined fairways, and views of the surrounding Somerset countryside.

Key Details:

  • The Course: A classic Harry Colt downland layout featuring rolling fairways, natural slopes, and fast, true greens.

  • Championship Pedigree: Rich history hosting Somerset County Championships and regional amateur events.

  • Facilities: Historic stone clubhouse, terrace dining, PGA Pro Shop, grass practice area, and short-game facility.

  • The Playing Experience: Classic downland golf where firm turf encourages crisp iron play and subtle green contours reward good green reading.
